Had been planning on going to the Perhentian Islands and just chilling on the beach for a week before flying to Saigon however several travel agencies told me that they are 'closed' now for the monsoon season and won’t ‘open’ again until Jan/Feb. I thus got the bus {35 ringitts} up to the Cameron Highlands instead which took about 4 hours. Had wanted to stay at Fathers Guesthouse but their dorm was full so ended up at the Mentigi Guesthouse next door instead. I’m sure in nice weather the Cameron Highlands are lovely but unfortunately it was drizzling when i arrived and continued to do so for the rest of the day (and it’s cold). Thus decided i would head to Penang the following morning. In the evening wandered around town and in the car park it was like a scene from ‘The Fast and the Furious’. There were about 25 customized standard road cars all supped up with fluorescent lights; big sound systems; flaming exhausts and various other modifications. A couple even had had gull-wing doors fitted which looked quite ridiculous to be honest.
