To Richard and Rosamund
We Are Here, You Are There
We sit on our porches
While you run marathons and carry torches.
We do our ironing while you chase rainbows
And travel anywhere that the road goes.
We do our washing while you get dusty
And allow your Bertha to get somewhat rusty.
We scrub our floors while you chase bears,
Scale mountains and don't mind scares.
We do our cooking while you drink wine
And haul fish from the rivers with a line.
We swat mosquitoes while you let them free
Knowing they'll suck the blood from you and me.
We shop for our groceries while you eat ethnic
Chasing away varmits with a stick.
We bargain for our clothes while you buy from gringos
And do so well speaking their lingos.
We sleep in our bedrooms while you sleep on gravel pits
And in the summer you might wear mitts.
But thanks to you we get these blogs
And can travel your roads and read your logs,
And sure wish I was there.
Joan
