Long drive down from Nelson,  stopping at the longest swingbridge in NZ, over the Buller river. Where we panned for gold (and found some), got eaten alive by sandflies :-(

We took the quick route back tandem comet!! and were told to "fly like a bird", basically a zip line with harnes/chairs, Ellie in front, me behind.

Another stop at Cape Foulwind to see the a large seal colony seals and to recreate the famous photographs at the fingerpost. Apparently it is closer to London than to Paris (not sure my spherical geometry can work this out, something to do with great circles or other)

We saw Wekas for the first time, and they seem to be a mix of curious and timidity all in a small chicken sized flightless bird.

A final stop at Punakaiki to admire the pancake rock formations, unfortunately the tide was out so the blowholes were blowing.

On the road through Punakaiki there is a sign warning of penguins crossing the road, I don't think that the penguins will really manage to brave the 2metre high surf and climb the 10 metre rocks (pancake or not) in order to get to the cafe.

Greymouth was quite a sight! We did not stop.

Finally found the fabled single lane train bridge, which was a little worrying, hopefully we don't get squashed between an oncoming truck and a train up the rear!!!

It seems that the floods are coming as it has been raining without let up for 14 hours now, perfect internet weather... off we go to Franz Josef.

Finally a chance to upload photos etc. Check out the older entries for the multimedia experience (some word of explanation needed now!)
