Off to Paris....after another stop in Cairo....then home to Salt Lake.
So, after flying back to Phuket, Thailand for a week to rest up, we started our journey home (the long way - going West). First stop was a one day layover in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It marked the 9th country on our 3 month journey...and my 48th in total. We didn't see much, and it was pretty much like any other large city in neighboring Thailand - crowded and hot....but not as friendly - perhaps it's the religion (Muslim vs. Buddist). Religion seems to make a big difference in people's demeanor wherever you are in the world. Still, the Malaysian people were freindly enough, an the place kind of made Thailand look expensive. So why when a Big Mac combo meal costs under $3 there, did I decide to eat from a roadside street vendor for dinner? Good question....and one I've been paying for since. The kabobs looked good enough, and we were told they were "special chicken". We'll they sure lasted "Special"...complete with a strange texture and grizzle. Steve stopped eating after taking a bite of half of one - joking to me it was probably rat. I laughed it off, and continued to eat the "meat" on a stick. Well, suffice to say, the last 72 hours on a plane have been pure hell for me. Lesson learned....Next time I'll order the Big Mac. :)
