Where I stayed

For the first time in our lives, we know what it's like to have a million in our pockets.  Too bad, the Indonesian Rupiah is worthless, and 1 million rupiah only equals 100 dollars.  Still, a million goes a long way in "God's Paradise".  Check out the pictures of where we are staying - in our own private two bedroom villa - with a garden pool, only 5 minutes to the beach.  This is truly a private paradise.  Bali is just being discovered by tourists, so it's still pretty "virgin" as far as beach communities go.  Unfortunately, the scam artists are learning fast and they are horrible (or shall I say worse) than any other place on the planet.  Because everything is in 10,000's for the prices, it's a little difficult to do a conversion in your head (especially when it's an odd conversion at approximately 9400 to 1 and you've had a few beers on the beach).  So, when we're sitting on the beach with our Bitang Beers (awesome, by the way), and four ladies come up and offer us a mani-pedi for (what we think) is a only a few bucks, we say "sure".  But, to make a long story short, a decimal place was moved, and we ended up paying them more than $30 each (about a month's salary) for the 10 minute experience.  This, of course, stings, when we think of what $30 would have bought us for a "legitimate" spa experience here.  In fact, a full 90 minute massage is being advertised for $12.  Oh, well, lesson learned....it was one of the first times I was truly scammed.  Other than that, we are loving Bali.  We're off to Scuba dive tomorrow, and plan on doing some white water rafting, and temple visits prior to return back to Thailand next week.  Hopefully, more blog entries will follow.  Meanwhile, enjoy the photos (and sunshine).  Man, we miss the snow and inversion back in Utah (NOT!).   :)
