As mentioned in the last blog we had an horrendous bus ride to reach the jungle town of Rurrenabaque, from there we travelled into what is called the pampas, an environment, or biome for the more well read amongst you, close to the jungle too seasonal to support rainforest proper so has a dry and wet season, the attraction is the wildlife, this environment is made up of swampy areas which supports a wide range of animals. We travelled by boat to the lodge where we stayed for 2 nights, we were really lucky again with our group, a couple of German doctors, (i now support Germany in the world cup and watched the game today with our new German friends Randy and Anke after meeting back up with them) 2 Norwegians girls and Adele, who we have been travelling with since getting back to Peru, she shares Hannah's love of wine, cheese and massages, enough said
Anyway apart from the guide trying to get into Adele´s bed on the last night the trip was great, lots of alligators, crocodiles, saw an anaconda, caught Piranhas etc etc. From there we flew back to La Paz, 40min a lot better than the 20 hours on the bus!!!!! Had a very large night in the pubs in La Paz, drinking at close to 4000m above sea level is no easy task and after the England game in the an English pub with Randy my new German mate, Classic!! (poor old England) we spent the day in bed, Hannah and me not me and Randy.
Once recovered we headed for Cusco, major attraction Machu Picchu, and a very nice town to boot, if incredible overrun with Americans and kids selling finger puppets, (Hannah bought 5).
Machu Picchu started with a very cool train trip taking in mountains, rivers etc, then we got to a little town called Aguas Calientes and spent the night before an early bus up to the sight, they are running a very slick operation, in the peak season, now, 2500 people a day!!!! We were lucky though nowhere near that number, however any kind of mystic or ¨wow im doing something different so goes as you share a bus up with American teenagers playing on their ipads
Hannah puts in at 3 behind Petra and Ankor Wat, me also 3 Great wall and Ankor wot.
Back to Cuzo, having a night out with the jungle trip crew and we head off to Lima tomorrow for a day and then fly to Costa Rica to catch up with Hannah’s parents for 5 nights. Bring on the beach.
All well here, hope the same where you are.
Rich and Han
