Hello all,

Well it has been a bit of a roller coaster since our last blog. What with the volcanic eruption, a couple of boarder crossings and some dirty filthy thieving bastard stealing Hannah's laptop.

Currently we find ourselves in the scenic Peruvian town of Huaraz deep in the Andeans North West of Lima, having a little down time before we embark on a 4 day trek into the Cordillera Blanca, the highest range in the Peruvian Andes, we will be in tents and have a team of donkeys, hard out....

Anyway back to our where we left off, we travelled from Colombia down to the Ecuadorean market town of Otavalo, indigenous town where the locals go crazy for all things alpaca and judging by the brand new 4 wheel drives they are all cruising around in they have a nice little earner going.  Very cool place though nestled between two dormant volcanos, stunning scenery.  Stocked with Alpaca blankets we headed to Quito the capital for a night and to have a quick look round, standard old churches, colonial architecture and modern new town.

From there we headed to the highland town of Banos, sure we had the seen the front pages of the papers showing it in full eruption, but that wasn’t going to stand in our way to see this raved about highland town.  On the drive in to the town and saw the perfectly formed cone,  an andesitic statovolcano for those wondering, (Kate Williams)  spiting a huge ash cloud.  As we descended into the town the cloud block our view, as it did for the next 3 days, however we were serenaded off to sleep each night with massive rumbling and explosions of the lava bombs from Tungurahua  just 20 km away.  Very cool.  We explored the area on a dune buggy, check out the pic of Han.

No other photos of this time as somewhere on the bus to the a another Ecuadorian town further south someone nicked the laptop from a bag at out feet, day bus and all, very very sneaky, we think they must have slid the bag under stole the computer and slide it back, how we have no idea, they also took a small back with all the cables for charging camera, ipod etc, a really pain in the ass.    Still most photos to date backed up so only lost about a week or so, could have been worse.

From there we crossed into Peru and spent 3 days at a really cool beach called Mancora, We really didn’t expect this kind of beach action in Peru, who knew....  was nice to lie around drinking beers in the sun for a few days, from there we spent 27 hours travelling to Huaraz, (approx 3200m )where we are now, mission trip and some pretty full on drop offs on the bus on the way up and it was good when the sun went down.  Anyway that about brings us up to day.

Hope all are well and if you made it to the end of this well done, your perseverance is appreciated.

Best wishes to you all

Hey Kate, nice work with the politically correct "BS" abbreviation, quickly followed by an F bomb. Richard's blog now has an R18 rating on our home computer...kids very disappointed.

Hang on, hang on...may be a false accusation here...gag has fallen flat....thought comment from "Tart" from London was from Kate S, but it's signed KP? Unless KP is KS's married name...?

Yeah fair cop Andy, keep it out of the gutter a Kate, we would like everybody irrespective of age to be able to enjoy the blog. on the KP note, P and S are along way from each other on the keyboard.......

KP on

KP is short for Katiepehaque, an old university nick name. I'm sorry that my colloquial language hit a raw note...do my few words really uphold the gutter! ? Let's not earnestly restrict any one's imagination !
