Made our way to higher elevation (8400ft, 2560m above sea level) near a winter ski resort in the hope of some cool air and a better night's sleep. It worked a treat and the fresh mountain air was a welcome relief!

Bessie didn't love it as much as we did and the high elevation caused a blown coolant hose (the noise we heard wasn't birds chirping after all). Luckily we heard it straight away while we where stopped at a lookout - and even luckier we had phone reception to call the tow truck.

The tow truck man was an interesting character who made it pretty clear he wasn't thrilled about driving up the mountain to save us. He shared with us his views on the local cuisine - recommending the chicken fried steak over the tacos we had enjoyed the night before.

The people in the town were nice. Our mechanic was the deputy sheriff as well.
