After a second sleepless night - mostly due to the heat, partly due to the large number of men in utes driving in and out of the otherwise empty campground (were they mafia? drug dealers? secret man lovers? rangers spying on us to make sure we paid?) we decided not to sleep in the van again.

So we dragged our weary souls to a beautiful B&B in the town of Natchez on the Mississippi, an 'antebellum' (pre-civil war) house that is one of over 100 mansions in the tiny town built by millionaires who made their fortune by trading slaves, cotton etc along the river. Bad for them, great for us. Tried not to walk around with jaws dropped - the contrast to the previous nights made it even better. Welcome drinks, homemade cookies, a shower (luxury!), huge southern breakfast, amazing furnishings and friendly southern hosts.

Watched the sunset over the river, slept in a real bed... bliss.
