31/7/12

After an eventful previous day consisting of a delayed flight in hobart causing us to miss our connecting direct flight to Karratha. We finally managed to wangle a flight via perth to arrive in Karratha that night, only 4 hours after our direct flight was due in.

Ever since Grant and sue have been in Karratha they had been telling us about a 4WD obstacle called the 'Jump Up' and once over this there is a beautiful beach with great swimming and views. So this morning we all decided to pile in the Land Rover and  head over the jump up which Rhys was quite excited about.

Upon arriving at the jump up we all got out and began to assess the obstacle, moving rocks to make the going easier for the 'tired' old Land Rover :-) while doing this a Landcruiser Ute turned up and proceeded to 'walk' up the Jump Up with ease! Pressure was on! Grant and Rhys let some air out of the tires and then with grant at the wheel we gave it a crack! After two and a half goes, some bumps and scrapes we made it! Great success.

Off we went to the beach and it didn't disappoint, lovely clear water and white sand, Monty, Grant and Sue's dog, was in his element, swimming and playing frisbee. A quick game of frisbee R.E.T.A.R.D. was played and you can see from the video who was the first one to lose :-)

On the way out Rhys was let behind the wheel of the Landy and negotiated the step back down the Jump Up, without causing trauma to the Land Rover/Grant.

The way back offered great views of the pluto gas plant, and some amazing country. At night we went out to the Bali Garden restaurant and had a nice meal. a great way to end a very relaxing first day.
