We had originally planned to do an excursion into Tuscany today for a wine tasting at a vineyard, but that was cancelled to my great disappointment. So we then we set up an excursion to go to Pisa for the afternoon. So trying to make Lemon Cello out of lemons, we set out.
After a little ride, we strolled through the town to the town square to find the Tower of Pisa. It was very cool and surreal. We had a little tour of the area, took our required pictures in front of the tower, and toured the nearby Cathedral and Baptistery. We didn't get to go inside because that cool tour was filled long ago, and of course since we had to change the last minute we missed that too! Anyway, in the Baptistery, a worker of the building came out suddenly and called out: "Silencio!" We looked at Bernie and mouthed, "What did you do?" Before she had a chance to answer, the man started to sing beautifully and with the shape of the building his singing rang out throughout the building. It was truly memorable and we are glad that we were there to hear it.
Tomorrow we land in Marseilles, where we have an excursion for the Château of the New Popes and Avignon. Ciao until then!
Carol's Daily Recap
Highlights: The Tower of Pizza, I mean Pisa!
Lowlights: The air conditioning wasn't very good on the bus. It was hot!
Bernie's Daily Recap
Highlights: Seeing one of the most well known land marks on the planet.
Lowlights: Our tour guide was not as attentive as our past guides.
Steph's Daily Recap
Highlights: The monuments were pretty cool, but I found some Torrone candy!
Lowlights: Having to spend nearly a whole Euro to allow three of us to use the bano. The was the first time I have EVER paid to use the toilet!
Becky's Daily Recap
Highlights: The guy that came out and sang in the Baptistery so you could hear the echo of the chamber. Unexpected and really cool.
Lowlights: There was some "vendors" with fake purses. I was planning on getting Carolyn a nice fake Prada for her birthday, but the police came by and all the vendors ran for the hills. Literally! (They nearly ran Carol over! She stood in the street like a deer caught in headlights!) Sorry Carolyn, I'll have to come up with something else for your birthday!
