Kang Ultra Stop

We woke up early to find hyena tracks passing through the campsite. We had had visitors overnight.

Today is a big day with a drive from Mabua Pan, to Kang. Our last day in the KTP.We had about 20km to get out of the park and then about 200 to get to Kang. Well i thought the tracks around the park were hard to drive through. As soon as we got out of the park we found the "road" we were travelling on went from sand to deep rutted sand, where we had to keep up the momentum to ensure that we didn't get stuck. We were leading Nick and Barbie and i am sure i could hear them laughing as The Warthog (yes we have named the Landy) bounced and crashed its way through the sand. At one stage it honk we hit a hump and had all four wheel in the air before crashing nose first into the next hump. I am sure that if we weren’t so fully packed we would have had everything on the dash at that point. We stopped and gave Barbie the video camera to try to capture some of the drama, but i fear, after viewing the video, it was just as bumpy in the prado. Some how Ryan actually managed to sleep through most of it. It took two hours of this before we finally made it onto a “decent “ road.We pumped up nicks tyres and took off again, at a better speed before heading into Kang.

The rest stop we stayed at, had a lovely pool, (this has become Ryan’s means of rating our accommodation, if it has a pool he is happy , if not, then it better have showers, or he wont be staying there!) The kids have also learned to greet the Botswana locals with a “Dumela Ma\Ra” and then to say, “Ky-lea-bogha ma\ra” to say thanks you. The locals love it when the kids at least approach them in their own language, usually big smiles and hand shaking. A reasonable nights sleep.

Zoe and I have just been around the block for a walk and she is now fast asleep. She misses you guys - specially Ross and Ryan. She sends her love - a kiss on the nose.
You are having a sandy old time there, brings back memories. I hope you manage to see some lions before you leave - and what about elephants? Did you have an elephant safari?
The weather seems to be warming up a bit - at last - but not quite up to the temps you are having.
Let me know when to expect you back. Love to all
