As I sit and write this next instalment of our blog it is 2pm here, Xmas breakfast over and done with, presents open and lunch being prepared, whilst back home it is still only 3am. Since the last blog we have flown from Perth to Corio, which is where my Dad and his wife Marlene live.  Corio is close to Geelong, which in turn is about an hour south west of Melbourne.  We had a good flight across taking about 3 hours and was fortunate to be given seats by the exit door giving us much needed leg room.  The rest of the day was spent getting used to our new surroundings.

Yet again we are fortunate to be given a car to use so today we spent the afternoon visiting the surrounding areas including Geelong harbour and buying a couple of presents. Nothing else of much note happened as we spent time catching up.

Today we met up with our close friend Peter who was very lucky that his flight got out of the snow in England.  We thought it would be a good idea to travel into Melbourne before ringing him so that we may surprise him but as we left for the train station I received a call from Pete who was already at Corio station, had we left earlier our paths would have crossed.  So a quick change of plan and we went and collected him.  Corio station is a very small station and as we met him you could almost see the tumbleweed blow across the ground, it was that desolate looking.  With Peter now here Marlene prepared him some food and we decided to take a trip out to the Great Ocean Road.  Those that know will be aware that this is one of the great scenic routes in Australia.  The drive was a long one but not unpleasant like it would be in England, by that I mean there wasn't loads of traffic.  We drove for miles looking at the wonderful scenery occasionally stopping for a photo opportunity before arriving at the greatest lie Australia has told 'The Twelve Apostles’.  These are a group of rocks named after the 12 Apostles but there were only ever 9 and now only 8 as one fell over in 2005. They had decided to call them the ‘Twelve Apostles’ because they felt it would attract more visitors.   We were told this by the helicopter pilot when taking an Ariel view paid for by our generous friend.  We returned home and Marlene made us a nice dinner before we drove Peter back to his hotel in Melbourne.

Christmas Eve and it sure does not feel like it over here.  Today we met up again with Pete only this time in Melbourne to have a look around.  We met at about 10.30 with Peter jumping out from behind a pillar at the station to greet us and walked and walked all day around the city.  We visited the MCG, walked around the stadium, watched a brief net session before heading along the Yarra river to the Eureka building, which is 91 floors high and has a glass type of floor that you can walk out onto, however we decided against that and just went to the main floor viewing area on floor 88 as the wait was 45 minutes.  The lift goes up 9 metres per second and takes just 40 seconds to get to the top making your ears pop like when you are on a plane.  The views were truly spectacular and hopefully the pictures will give an idea although the colour is not quite right.  We continued walking before going back to Peter’s hotel.  He went for a shower whist Sue and I went for a beer.  Later we went for a Chinese meal in China Town and were absolutely knocked out with the meal, which was the tastiest Chinese meal certainly that Sue and I had eaten.  We said our goodbyes for the day and returned back to my Dads on the train completely knackered.

25/12/10

Christmas day and we went along to my brother Michael’s and wife Rachael for breakfast.  It was the first time that we had met his two daughters Indiana 21 months and Charli Mae 6 weeks also for Sue to meet them all.  We returned home where the rest of the day will be spent just having a lazy day before we get up early to attend the Boxing Day Test.
