When we checked in here on Thursday we were told that it was Adelaide Cup weekend and everywhere  was full. As we wanted to stay in the a this area for a while we extended our stay by another 3 days, making 5 in all.

Did you know that the rotary line was invented in Nurioptpa? No neither did I. We had a great accompanied tour of the wineries yesterday but the guide didn't restrict his information to them, he also gave us masses of information on the area.

His first words were to congratulate us in staying in the Barossa Valley Tourist Park, owned by the 21,000 people of the community. The park is not only for visitors it is primarily a sports facility for the community paid out of the proceeds of the caravan park.

The community also owns a shopping area from which they earn $1M dollars a week (I think, maybe a month, but nevertheless a huge sum of money).  All proceeds from these ventures goes into the community to help old people etc.

Senior Citizens can sign up to maintain all the public garden areas and also hire themselves out commercially.  Again, all proceeds go to the community.

The local school has a vineyard which exclusively supplies Barrosa Scholar Wine to 9 restaurants in California, own a racehorse call Barossa Scholar and a vehicle repair shop which renovates and re-sells three old wrecks a year.  All proceeds go to the school fund.

All in all this seems to be a very caring community and should be held out as a beacon of how things should be.  Amazing.

This morning had a look around the Farmers Market and bought some beautiful strawberriess and then we went on to lunch at Betty Beers,  a celebrity TV chef who has a shop in the area.  Again, the weather has been perfect. Tomorrow we plan to go to the Clare Valley, another wine growing district.

Thanks for keeping us informed about your holiday (he said enviously). I haven't yet seen your review of Stephano's in Murita. It's not this one, is it?

"I have wanted to go to Stefano's for a while now, but the distance is what stopped us. Not anymore. The underground cellar that houses this establishment creates the wonderful backdrop for a remember-able night ahead. The pride, passion and joy showed by the staff will be etched into my memory. With everything in life 'its the small things that matter' and here that is never overlooked-its STAMPS all my boxes! From the word go I couldn't fault it. Can't wait to visit again!"

As the chef was absent when you went, that may be explanation why you had such a long-drawn out unsatisfactory visit.

Hi there
I first spoke to you electronically when you were doing your OzBus to New York Anne and still receive your blogs. Unfortunately the Ozbus company went into receivership as there had been so many complaints about them by people on the trip and I lost some money. I could have joined up with the new company but felt that I would rather have my original money back but ALAS that has not and probably will not happen now!!!

You aren't far from me at the moment (as the crow flies). I'm in Adelaide which is about an hour and a half from Nuriootpa.

Do you think you will come to Adelaide-it's buzzing at the moment with festivals, car races, WOMAD etc so it's a good time to come. My phone number is 0466969231 if you would like to get in touch.

Anyway, if not, have a great time on the rest of your travels around this beautiful country. Cheers. Liz

Hi Liz, got so sorry you cautght up in the Oz-Bus bust. Another person that I know lost money to them too. We thought ourselves that they were cutting corners on our trip and did wonder myself if they were having financial problems.

Nice to have spoken to you on the phone yesterday, maybe we could get together for a coffee mid week? Ann xx

No time like the present Hallette - you should start that blog straight away. I suspect that you have some marvelous stories to tell.
