THE JOHN HUNTER MOTEL

In the absences of anything more worthwhile to do Vinnie and I went on a wine tasting tour of the Hunter Valley, the original wine growing district of Australia.  We had Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Shiraz, Semillion, Chardonnay and a couple I'd never heard of before - oaked, new, aged, with stalks, without stalks, etc.  Vinnie spat his out but he said that it was against the law for me to do that, so I just had a good time.

And down came the rain.  But tonight we decided to "tough it out" and do our camper van thing regardless of the weather.  So we drove to our designated stop for the night, drove in and straight out again.  It was like a home for the damned.  Funnily enough I had only just been asking Vinnie if there was an American  "hillbilly" equavalent in Australia.  I can now answer that, yes there is.

Like the wimps that we are, we have again checked into a rather nice motel for the night.  As we have now got to know each other rather well it's a twin room for us to save the pennys. Or should I say cents? I know that he's my grandson, but the last time I slept in the same room as him he was about 6.  But we both snore, so what the hell!  Although in the snoring competition I have been told I win hands down.

What will tomorrow bring I wonder?  There seems no way of getting out from under this cloud.  They say it's the deepest and longest trough with the most rainfall since the 1800's.  It just keeps swinging backwards and forwards, where it goes nobody knows.
