This year we decided to do something a little different by spending Christmas camping in one of the wonderful Texas State Parks.

This year has been a very challenging and distressful year for us personally.  We have had to endure health issues and the loss of many friends and family members.  We wanted to end the year on a high note and ring in the new year with a new attitude.

Unfortunately these setbacks kept us from doing many of the things we wanted to achieve this year.  Though we may have been knocked down, we weren't knocked out.  We decided back in October to move forward with the purchase of a camper - Aliner.  This was our first step.  We then began camping at the different state parks - Caddo Lake, Kerriville - Scheiner, Garner, and Guadalope River.

We started trail hiking, birding and taking pictures. Before long we were riding our bicycles on the trails... Now we are hardcore mountain bikers going out every weekend to ride.  To date we have conquered trails rated as high as level 3 and lived to tell.

Now two months, four camping trips, 50 biking miles and 20 hiking miles later we sit at Pedernales Falls State Park excited about endless possibilities and adventures.

Breakfast: skipped
Lunch: Stew & biscuit with asparagus & sliced tomato
Dinner: fruit
Supper: Air popped popcorn

Our first day in the park we got up close and personal with the Pedernales River.  We started a 5 miles hike through the river and up the other side of the hill.  Unfortunately, we had to turn back because we got such a late start.  We will go back on our last day to explore this side of the park.

That night we curled up on our sofa, air popped some popcorn and watched a western.
