We drove until mid-night and stopped at a rest area near Council Bluffs after surviving some great lightning, heavy rains and terrible roads.  After driving from coast to coast it is my observation that roads in the US are in poor shape.  Lots of bumps and road work.  And the number of trucks on the road is scary.
