We've signed the lease! Matt and I met the owners with the brokers tonight and signed the lease. We were hoping to move in this weekend but they still have to do a few renovations so we’ll move in next week on the 12th. In a way it’s good because it’s a bit more comfortable here at the temporary rental – at least until our things arrive! I ordered a couch that folds into a bed today so that will be almost the only furniture for a few more weeks! Will need to make a trip to IKEA soon to get 1 pan, 2 plates, 2 knives, 2 forks, 2 mugs – just enough to get us through! The good thing about not having a car is that I can only buy what I can carry…

If you search 191 6th Avenue, Brooklyn in Google maps you can click on the photo and use the navigation buttons to look at the brownstone on the corner and the street (we’re the lower level). You can even see the backyard that Lulu will be running around in! Tigger will no doubt find a pile of leaves under a bush out of Lulu’s way to curl up under.

The owners are really nice and friendly. He’s a film maker/ artist and she works for Intel. They’ve got two kids who apparently like to play the piano early in the morning… We were again loving the area when we were walking there tonight. Marc and Irena told us about a co-op nearby where if you work for 3 hours per person in the household per month you get discounted fresh fruit and veggies that’s nice and fresh. A good way to meet people too. I’ve signed up to a few expat and art groups on Meetup (a website that connects you with people with similar interests) so once we’re settled we’ll set out to meet a few more people and explore all the area and NY has to offer.

Matt’s still having long, stressful days at work, but now we’ve got one less thing on our plate!

They were filming a movie yesterday in Park Slope in a street just around the corner from where we’re staying. I saw the actress "Robyn" (Coby Smulders) from “How I met your mother” being interviewed – you can vaguely see her in one of the photos. Apparently it’s Vince Vaughn’s new movie “The Deliveryman” – will have to go and watch it when it comes out!

It’s been quite warm the last few days, hopefully it lasts! Not sure if we’ll have a white Christmas…

Already rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous I see!
I actually saw a documentary a few months ago in which they visited the supermarket you are talking about - it looked awesome and such a great way to give back to the community (and get cheaper stuff!) I hope its fun!

Hi Rene,
Glad to hear you guys have finally got a place : ) YAY Exciting about the movie, maybe you should hang out there in the background you might get a shot in the movie. The weather here in Melb has been all over the place...temps hav been so low lately that we've had snow up in the mountains but apparently its meant to hit the high 30's by the end of the wk. Hopefully you will be able to meet and make some great friends there soon. Dont sweat the small stuff, it will all get done eventually.... Take care and we'll speak soon
