Today we did a crazy Zip Line here in Costa Rica. It was the most hardcore one we could find called EXTREMO. You probably know what zip lining is but if you don't, it's basically you sit in a little harness which hangs from a cable on a pulley. The cables are stretched between mountains / hills / trees etc and the beginning is higher than the end so you just zip along them at some crazy rate of knots....a bit like being a human cable-car really! The breaking system is your hand in a gardening glove with a leather patch on it that you hold against the cable to slow you down! The EXTREMO Zip was 14 cables the longest of which was over 1Km in length and the highest was around 540 feet above the ground. There was also a 100 foot high Rappel (Shear Drop) and a 200 foot high Tarzan Swing which included an initial freefall drop of about 100 feet. It's the craziest thing We've done...real brown trouser stuff....

We were just at Extremo last week (June 2010) with our children (aged 6 and 9). It was AWESOME. The guides were wonderful and extremely helpful with the kids. They also took beautiful photos. I would definitely recommend Extremo if you are considering a safe, but scary, adventurous canopy tour. Money well spent!
