Today we did an afternoon tour of Volcano Pacaya. After an hour and 45mins of climbing through forest, volcanic rock and dust we were near the summit of the volcano. We could see the heat rising from the side of the volcano and could feel our feet getting very hot! We were walking on cooled lava from about 8 days previous which sounded pretty hollow and was a little scary. We could also see glowing orange lava through some of the cracks.
Once we were close to the top of the volcano we could see the lava flowing out from the side of the volcano, it was so amazing and really hot, it felt like our faces were burning,. it was so amazing and we couldn't believe how close you can get to the lava (about 2 feet away). There were people toasting marshmallows and lighting cigarettes. It was then time for us to make our way back down the volcano in the dark, it was pretty tricky but well worth it.
