While in Moonee Ponds, I was able to meet up again with Jan and Finn; whom I had met previously in Vietnam and Cambodia. Luckily Rob's house, where I was staying, is quite close to the nearest tram line and so I was still able to get into town on crutches. The first day just to meet up for some beers in Melbourne central, the second day to go to a cricket game! I'd never been to a cricket game before and didn't know anything about the game, but with Jan's expertise on hand (he studied sport journalism) - we were all prepared!

The game we were going to watch is a 20/20 game (20 overs for each team), between the Melbourne Renegades and the Perth Scorchers. The game took place in the Etihad soccer stadium, a big multipurpose stadium that seats 55.000 people but only had 14 thousand people in attendance for this game.I was  quite surprised how accessible the stadium is when walking on crutches, Jan did request for us to be seated in the crippled section so we could get 1st rank seats and autographs from the players, but since I'm only on crutches and not in a wheelchair I did not qualify for that apparently... We did however end up with tickets that allowed us to sit anywhere we wanted, so we could just pick some seats that I could easily hop to, that was pretty convenient.. The game only took 3 hours, as opposed to some test matches that can last for days, and was quite entertaining. I actually managed to understand (most of) the rules after a while and the game turned out to be very entertaining! For anyone who doesn't know cricket but gets the chance to visit one, I can recommend it!

The game was good fun, but what was even more fun was the rest of the supporters: we sat close to a group of Pakistani's that were quite vocal in supporting their favorite players and things got out of pretty nicely. One of the rules in the stadium though is that you cannot smoke while in your seat, and it only took 15 minutes for a troop of drunk guys right next to us to start smoking and then getting kicked out by security.. Pretty entertaining, but I just couldn't imagine the same scene taking place during a soccer game in Europe!

After two days my time in Melbourne was up and I was ready to leave for the great Ocean Road, together with Finn!
