Yeppoon Day 32

Well today we could sleep in finally, I say could because we could of slept in if it wasn't for our body clock waking up again at 5.30am. Jay hopped out of bed & went for a fish while I lazed in bed till 7am when the kids also got out of bed.

So it was a lovely shower leisurely breakfast. I made lunches for today packed 4 bags with towels, goggles, food & cameras. And we sat around waiting & talking to mum & dad till 9.50am when we headed off to our boat, Freedom Fast Cats. Our boat to paradise.

We bought our tickets to Great Keppel Island for the ferry across. Purchased some drinks & ice cream, then waited till 10.20am when the ferry boarded.

We went straight to the top of the boat to get the views while we headed on out to Great Keppel Island. We had great views back to the mainland. We saw a flock of birds with heaps of bait fish jumping out of the water under them. There was also a lot of brown coral spawn in the water on the way out. But it was a nice smooth ride out.

When we arrived at the island we headed straight to the beach shack & hired some snorkels & flippers to see the coral & fish.

It was then a long walk down the white sandy beach to the other end & then a huge uphill walk to a private location where the good snorkelling was. The walk down to the beach was a bit scary wearing thongs slippery sandy rocks & big distances between them. I had to slide on my bum to get from one to then next one, sometimes.

The walk I suppose was worth the perfect location. (the views across the water & back to the main beach were also pretty spectacular from up on the hillside). We quickly placed all our gear under the shady trees & headed straight to the water with our flippers, snorkel & goggles.

It was a fairly long distance out to the coral. But boy when we made it there it was awesome. Heaps of colourful fish, coral of different shapes, sizes & colours. (mainly different shades of green). I tried to take heaps of great photos but it was difficult trying to see without being able to wear my glasses.

We spent a good hour out here before Jay starting getting major cramps in his calves & had to head back to shore. I stayed out a little longer. Then headed back in. Across the sandy section the current was quite strong & it was hard swimming back in & it was colder. But made it to shore safe & sound.

We had our sandwiches, muffins & drinks on the beach relaxing taking in the breathtaking view. After 10min I was back in the water with Braiden to see more fish & coral. Braiden only lasted 10min before he headed back. I stayed out for another 30min but I started to spook myself thinking "Bruce" was sneaking up behind me ready for lunch.

We dried off on the beach before we headed back over the steep boulders & uphill. Slipping & sliding in our thongs. When we hit the beach again we took back our hired gear. Jay headed off to the other end of the beach whilst the kids & I stayed. We then swam & relaxed the rest of the day away.

The ferry was leaving at 3.30pm so we boarded & headed back home. The trip back was rough. The swell was up & windy. A couple of times we were soaked by the waves coming off the side of the boat, on the 2nd level. But it was fun, rolling & bumping back to mainland.

We arrived back at 4.30pm, dad was there to pick us up. Soon as we got back to camp I headed straight to the showers, whilst Braiden & Bella hired some bikes.

Big, big mistake. After riding for 10mins. Braiden cut in front of Bella causing her to swerve & the steering arm snapped off causing Bella to flip the bike & ended up on the gravel with the bike on top of her. Her big scream sent dad & I into flight nearly knocking each other over to rush to her aid. She had hurt her back again & has grazed her back, shoulder & elbow. Poor thing she was in a lot of pain, but accidents happen. Not happy about the steering arm of the bike snapping off though. The owner saw it happen & couldn't apologize enough.

Drama over Jay cut up heaps of vegetables & I started cooking chicken. I made the most delicious stir fry for tea.

Excellent read and pics. We have no TV signal again so have just finished viewing dad's photos shoots.
