We left Woomera at 7.15am. Our routine is now down pat. We filled up with Petrol $86.00 15.75L/100 at $1.75/L & were on our way. The 1st part of the Stuart highway was flat, dry with low lying scrub as far as the eye could see blue sky all around. It was like this for the 1st hour then we spotted some salt pans in the distance & had our 1st rest stop taking photos of it in the distance. Then more flat barren land.

Over a slight hill, around a bend & the scenery totally changed to scrubby bushes & small trees. 70% of these trees looked dead & black. Then barren land again.  Another stop off was at heart Lake a huge salt pan lake where a lot of caravans were free camping. Not much here.

We spotted our 1st wedged tail eagle sitting on a tree. Up a little further 2 were on the ground. When we pulled up 3 crows chased them away from their feast of road kill. They were huge & an awesome sight to see. But it's extremely hard to take a photo doing 90km/h over a bumpy road & trying to manually focus trying to find them in the eye piece so sorry they are very blurry but you get the idea of them.

Another rest stop for a drink & something to eat was at Glendambo. A sign entering town read....welcome to Glendambo Elevation 150m Population---- Sheep 22,5000 flies 2,000,000 approx Humans 30. Quite funny.

One part of the road a wide load vehicle was going the opposite way, boy did they mean a wide load he took up two lanes we had to pull off the road so he could get past. The truck was carrying what looked to be a huge tractor bucket & tyre.

40km from Coober Pedy dads car petrol light came on & he knew we wouldn't make it the last kms so we pulled up on the side of the road & filled with the jerry can.  At the spot we could see a mine in the distance very interesting to see all those huge mining vehicles.

We arrived at Coober Pedy at 1.15pm & took the tourist picture under the big Coober Pedy sign.

We filled up with more petrol $109.00 16.44L/100km $1.749/L our most expensive so far.

We headed straight to our caravan park. We got a site under some shade cloth. I'm glad we booked early & got these sites as a lot of others are out in the full sun.  The amenities block here are brand new & fantastic. They have a games room which the kids have already used. A pool in an old water tank, the water inside is freezing so will be very refreshing in the next couple of days when temperatures are meant to sore.

Mum, dad, Phyllis & I headed into town to the Information Centre & picked up some brochures of things to do in the next couple of days then went back to the petrol station for some souvenirs. When we were at the petrol station a truck driver came & paid for his fuel he was pulling a double full of cattle & his petrol bill was $2,004.00. Made my fuel bill look cheap. Did a quick food shop. The rest of the day was spent relaxing & catching up with washing.
