So where was we, ah yes at customs. We were on the coach on the way down to Singapore, it was alright no dramas, we got to the border crossing hopped off and went and joined the immigration queue.
We had to get our bags off the coach so they could all be scanned, didn't have this when we crossed into Malaysia but Singapore is strict, read that you get fined if you don't flush the toilet. How do they know you don't? I'd hate to be the person who does that job.
There was signs all posted up saying that all alcoholic drink and cigarettes, you know anything fun, has to be taxed. I had a bottle of Samsong from Thailand in my day sack but thought as I've been threw a border already and bought it in Thailand it wasn't a problem. Well supposedly  it was, I got pulled into some side room and Elle had to go wait with the coach to make sure they didn't go without us. Firstly they thought I was concealing a taxable item, when I said about buying it in Thailand and not knowing they asked if I had ever been into Singapore before. I said no, which is true and which is a godsend as they only gave me a warning and 'educated' me on the laws as its normally a prisonable offence. Oh and they taxed my bottle, work this out, 4 bottle of rum = 10 tax? I thought our government were bad.
I have the dearest bottle of Samsong in Asia now.

So finally in Singapore, with the rest of the bus thinking I was a convict they all soon run off the bus and disappeared. We decided to walk down to where all the accommodation was, take in some of the sights whilst we done so. After looking round a few run down places and places out of our price range we come to a hostel and come to the fact that we will have to stay in our first dorm. The place is good though, probably our first proper hostel on our trip, good communal area with a few computers and a huge TV which I didn't see switched off the whole time we was there. The only thing is, which we soon realized is that deepavali was going on whilst we was there and I think it is quite big in Singapore and we was staying in Little India, let the business start.

The sleep wasn't too bad, apart from loads of school kids obviously on a trip to see the Deepavali celebrations. They were running around banging on doors till 2am, the 2 'teachers' that were trying to keep control of about 40 kids weren't doing too good of a job! I also had a bit of a weirdo keep bugging me with her new Sony camcorder she had just bought. She had asked me if I knew how to get the battery out whilst we was downstairs, I had a look and figured it out and thought nothing else of it. When we was in the dorm getting ready for bed, we was keeping quiet under torch light as someone was sleeping, crazy lady came barging in turning the light on and making the most noise possible with a suitcase (it was about 12.30am). 10 mins later whilst I was on the top bunk she came up to me again asking to take the battery out.. again, I done it. Another 10-15 mins and I was facing the wall with my back to the rest of the room, it looked as though I was asleep but that didn't stop nut nut tapping me on the back asking if I knew how to take the memory card out. I told her no with a tone in my voice which I think she got as she left me alone after that. Think we might move rooms the next day.                                                                                                                                                                     We decided we wanted to go to Sentosa Island, which has a Universal Studios on it amongst other things like an aquarium and a few beaches. Its an Island south of Singapore and can be reached by a 500m long bridge with gardens or a cable car from some posh looking building, looked too expensive for us so we walked! When we got there we had a really nice burger and chips for something like 6 each which was really cheap for what it was and where we was! They had a salt on the chips like Peri Peri, oh I miss nandos!
We wanted to go to Universal Studios, so went to buy the tickets but where it was Deepavali the price was higher for the public holiday and it was 3pm, so we decided to go there the next day and earlier to get more time inside and to pay 'off-peak'. Another factor of choosing the next day would be that we got a discount on the Halloween night they had, which started at 8pm.

Seeing as we was on Sentosa we decided to see what else the Island had to offer. We walked past the man made beaches which were all packed even though the weather wasn't all that and came to the aquarium. Seeing as Elle had never seen a seal/dolphin show before we decided to take a look, had a walk threw the water tunnel and stroked rays whilst waiting for the show. When it was time we got to the stands and they where already pretty full but we managed to get pretty decent seats near the Seal boxes which they stand on. The place was jam packed with about 3000 people, they picked a guy out to help with the seal show, throwing some rings so one could catch them round its neck. Next up was an opportunity to meet a dolphin up close, they warned that you might get wet. Me and Elle both put our hands up along with the other thousand of hands and guess what, Elle got picked! Maybe because she had the only blonde hair in the stands or because she looked the most excited even beating the 12 year old kids! Seeing as it was the first time she had been to one of these it was nice, time to get a picture... I tried turning on both cameras and they were both out of battery!! After frantically trying I managed to get 3 or 4 by just turning on and getting 1 photo before it conked out, repeating the process but we couldn't view them to see if they had actually been taking so we had a few anxious hours till we got back to see if they had.
Getting back, all good on the photo front and we had to move rooms as they were overbooked. We decided to go out and see the Deepavali festives, after sampling some Indian food too spicy for Elle and 'trying' to walk threw the crowds we ended up at a bar listening to some live music and after a couple of hours decided to call it a night.

Universal Studios today, off we went. I haven't said yet how good the public transport is in Singapore, clean cheap and efficient, I know they are very strict but its a very well run city! The studios was decent, Steven Spielberg effects show-Mummy ride-Madagascar and a Waterworld show to name a few, its a shame as there was a Transformers ride coming out in December... gutted!

The Halloween night was even better, they had loads of employees (seeing as only half the park was open) dressed and acting like zombies walking threw which was a nice clean street threw a New York set during the day but they had made it look so eerie and apocalyptic it was really good and if you wasn't careful one of the 'zombies' could sneak up and scare the crap out of you!! Some of the rides were open to ride threw the night and there was a really good haunted house! We had to leave as we wanted to go to Raffles Hotel and have a famous Singapore Sling which was invented at the Long Bar inside the hotel. So we got back to the hostel and after having to move again into another room! We got our best clothes that were in the backpacks and headed on down there. Very nice bar with monkey nuts strewn all over the place and the most retro fan system I have seen. The house band were awesome but we got there quite late and only heard 2 or 3 songs including a brilliant rendition of Sweet Child of Mine. I was also glad we got there late as it was 14 a sling so we had our 1 each which was very nice and our moneys worth of free monkey nuts.

We got back to the hostel and had to pack and be ready for the morning as our time was up in Singapore and we were off to Malaysia Borneo. Its a shame we didn't have more time here as its a very nice city and we didn't see half of what it has to offer, or have half the money to afford it!!
