Anyway, after watching some Michael videos, we left for the supermercado to buy things for Festa Junina. When we returned some boys and men were putting up the fogueira (bonfire). They had already put up the string of flags. Today, May Lou went to the groomer, and I must say she looks 100% better. What a difference a little soap and water can make to a so-ugly-you’re-kinda-cute dog. We went inside for lunch, which was feijoada and got to work preparing more food for tonight’s festivities. Then the skies grew dark and the power went out. Good thing the stoves are run by gas! Power’s back on…great! We continued to socialize in the kitchen and prepare. Power’s out again! This time for over an hour…the wind caused this to occur. So they lit candles so that we could see what we were doing. Mayra and I discussed our trip to SP next weekend. I am so excited to see another part of Brazil, you wouldn’t believe! I don’t think this time around I’ll be able to go to Rio because there is no way I can go there alone. Marcos says I can go to Bahia alone but NOT Rio. So, maybe many years down the road I can return for a vacation.
Anyway, later on in the evening, after the power returned, I took a shower and got ready for thie party. Festivities began around 8:15. There was plenty of good food, lots of people and a great bonfire to warm the night air.
