Last week Thursday and Friday was Corpus Christi...a holiday I was not expecting! In small cities there is usually a procesional and decorations, but in Campinas, it is just a day off.
I stayed in the house all day on Thursday, which was exteremly boring.  I decided that I would find my way to the mall if no one could take me! So, on Friday, I woke up and ate breakfast.  Paula and Marcelo wanted to go to the mall.  They saved me from boredom! We went to Dom Pedro mall, which I may have mentioned in an earlier entry.  I had the chance to walk around much of this huge mall.  The clothes are priced similarly to any department store in the U.S., and the styles are not too different, although slightly.  The mall was built on ground with a huge tree, which they tried to preserve by making tree art in the mall.  One thing that´s different here is that there are recycling bins everywhere! There´s a spot for metal, plastic, paper, trash, and cigarettes.  We returned home in time for lunch.

On Sunday, I rode the bus downtown to Igreja.  I looked for Rick but could not find him.  So I asked an usher if he knew Rick.  He searched but could not find Rick.  However, he took me to sit with a Brazilian family who was hosting an American family! I sat with them and they translated the service for us.  Last Friday was Dia das Namorados (Valentine´s Day), so they gave a gift to each of the pastors.  We then took communion, and the service was ended.  They invited me to eat lunch with them...we ate feijoada! Family from churchThis American family is from Orlando.  The oldest daughter is dating the son of the Brazilian family.  So, the family (mom, dad, daughter, and other daughter) came to visit.  I tell you...they must have a lot of money  because the daughter (Danielle) has been to Brazil 4 times in the last 2.5 years to visit him.  Also, he is studying in Paris and she has been to Paris and other parts of Europe to visit. Not bad for a 20 year old!  They drove me home, and I spent the rest of the afternoon napping, eating, and studying Portuguese.

Sad news...Paula´s father passed away today.  Apparently he was sick with a possible tumor.  They will actually bury him today because the doctor says his body cannot stay in the hospital due to edema and fluids exiting his body...
