Where I stayed
Old Kentucky Home State Park
Ducks won on Saturday. Headed out on Sunday to Great Smoky Mountain NP - most used national park in US - but it was mostly day trippers ... so campground very empty (although park staff assigned us a handicapped spot right next to two other folks ... go figure ... I think they were trying to be nice and give us a flat surface for the van).
Monday morning we toured the Cades Cove in the park - saw bear and deer and grist mill. Then started to drive - pouring rain - set up in the rain in a campground in Kentucky - then OS: campstove threads for propane were shot ... AH: had our backpacking one burner - so dinner changed from tumeric chicken and broccoli and rice (notice number of pots) to tuna cassarole (one pot) AND saving grace was Rainsong pinot !!!
Abe Lincoln born in Kentucky - so visited birthplace and boyhood home. Then found the Bourbon Trail (learned much ... and tasted some ... ). Clouds cleared last night. Beautiful sunny day today - about 68 degrees - just visited Old Kentucky Home - where Steven Foster wrote the song ... Now heading back to Bourbon Trail (Jim Beam or bust) and onto to John Audabon St. Park. (also in Kentucky). Birds, bourbon and maybe golf for Pete.
More to come.
