Monterey is like an American rom com. Predictable and safe but makes you feel good anyway (whether you like it or not).  Even the parking meters are shaped like hearts.  It was pretty much as I expected it to be and was a perfect remedy for my tired mind and body.  It has a beach and a wharf and an aquarium along a very pretty coastline.  It also has some 'British' pubs where I met some nice people, American and British.

I stayed in Monterey for five lovely but fairly uneventful days, I had a little kitchen in my room so I bought some food before realising that the hobs didn’t actually work and there weren’t any pans.  The corkscrew was also missing but that has never posed a problem for me as I have a mascara and a boot.

After a little too much sleep and Golden Girls episodes (although I don’t think I could ever really have too much of that), I was clearly craving more road hours and spent another 8 travelling south to LA.  The Hound was a lot less viscous this time and was actually a pleasure to ride.  A newer bus with comfy leather seats and free wifi  - I was elated!  And so was the Mexican Mr Karaoke who saw me with my laptop and asked me to show him how to build a website for his business – we have since exchanged emails and I’m looking forward to seeing the cucaracha online soon.

The scenery along the coast is quite spectacular and the weather was beautiful.

I don't get the bit about the mascara and the boot.

I have a feeling I might need to know about Mascara and boot.
