Evangelista - Navimag Ferry
What I did
Puerto Montt and the surrounding area of Chiloe
I managed to ask the girl in the hotel (using pigeon Spanish) to book me a taxi down to the port as I did not want to carry my bags that far. I even missed breakfast as I knew that I wouldn't understand what they were trying to say. I'll get something down at the port. I got down to the port around 10 am. The girls at the check in desk told me that I could drop my bags off now and come back at 1 pm. What the hell was I going to do until then. It was a bank holiday here and hardly anything was open. No one speaks English here at all so this was going to be fun. I managed to find a little corner shop open so I could buy some rubbish food, as I had had no breakfast. I went back to the terminal and just sat there until it was time to board.
We were eventually allowed to board around 2 pm. When we were shown to our cabins, I found out that I had been upgraded. I paid for a basic dorm room with 44 beds, but as it was low season, I was upgraded to a 4 bed inside cabin, happy days!! I am sharing my room with Becky from London and a lady from Japan. Also met some other nice people from all over the world, Simona from Italy, Joris from Switzerland and Lochlan from Oz. At last, I have people to talk to that understand me!
We finally set sail just after 4 pm and are now slowly cruising down the coast. Really nothing to see today as it's grey and cloudy but as we get further south, the more picturesque it will get.
Early to bed, as I had such a busy day. It's amazing how tired you can get by doing absolutely nothing.
More updates tomorrow!
