Monday - After the events of the weekend, I thought I would have a day off today. I had a lazy morning then decided to walk to the library where you can get free wifi. Woo Hoo!!
It took me all morning to catch up on emails and type up my blog. By the time I had finished, it was 1 pm so I decided to go and get myself a subway for lunch (a healthy one and only 6 inches!!) and then go to the fake beach and chill out for the afternoon. It was pretty hot that day so a good idea to chill.
That's all I have to report about Monday.
Tuesday - Well, this is a completely different story. Got my batteries re-energised from my rest yesterday so I decided to hire a push bike from the hostel (only $5). I cycled my little legs off. I think I must have covered the whole of Brisbane in a day. It was cloudy in the morning so quite a good time to hire a bike.
I firstly rode to New Farm Park which is on the west side of Brisbane and took in some of the old buildings like the Brisbane Powerhouse which has now been turned into a arts factory. The cycle was mostly along the river, but where the floods hit Brisbane back early this year, some of the tracks have been washed away so I did a detour through the residential areas. There are some really beautiful houses and apartments along here. Hmmm, really thinking that a life could be made here, but how? I then turned back and cycled over Story Bridge (designed by the same chap that designed the Sydney Harbour Bridge) up to Kangaroo Point, which is a nice place with seating areas and BBQ's which has a lovely view of the city. From there, I then went down to South Bank, past the fake beach and big wheel, and further along to the east side of Brisbane. Not sure where I stopped and turned around but it was a pretty long way. Decided I needed to go back to the hostel for lunch so I had a little break around 1 pm.
Round two. Headed for the City Botanic Gardens. It was lovely in there. Somewhere to go and have a picnic or just a break from the city. I cycled around the park for a while and stopped to watch the ducks and weird looking birds messing around in the big pond. Whilst I was sat there, I witnessed lots of Bearded Dragons (lizards) running around everywhere. They are quite funny. They stay still for quite some time and then they suddenly burst into action and start running. The freaky thing was, I was trying to take a photograph of one stood still and all of a sudden, it started to run towards me. As you can imagine, I legged it!! There were loads of them in the park. I have found out since, that they don't harm you.
I headed back to the hostel around 3 pm as I needed to get ready to go back out as Emma & Chris had kindly agreed to take me to Mount Coot-Tha to watch the sunset over the city. I caught the river taxi from near the hostel up the river to Auchenflower where Emma & Chris live. We drove up to Mount Coot-Tha, which only takes around 15 mins, apart from when you drive in rush hour traffic! The views at the top were amazing. It was like virtually having a 360 degree view of the whole area. Unfortunately, it was cloudy so no sunset to watch, but I wasn't disappointed.
We then went back to their house and they cooked me a lovely dinner. God I forgot how good food tastes, other than 2 minute noodles!!
Emma & Chris are great. They have really looked after me over the past few days and made me feel welcome. Ended up staying at theirs again last night and quite a bit of alcohol consumed. I hope Emma's day at work today isn't too bad. Thanks guys, I'll really miss you!
Today (23rd Nov) Left their house around 10 am and got myself back to the hostel. We are due thunder storms today so I decided that I would come back to the library today to complete my blog and then have a wander around the shops (window shopping).
Last day in Brisbane as I leave for Coolangatta tomorrow. I've loved it here and will definately come back one day!
