We have a new member who has been recently added to our collective family. Biscuit is a tiny puppy that lives behind the school with the chickens and rabbits. She was a gift for one of the bus drivers who didn't have anywhere to keep her, so she lives in a very small cage and never goes out for walks. Dogs can be pets or dinner in Korea. Dog soup is a dish offered in Korea, with the closest restaurant offering it just a stone's throw from the school. The foreign teachers took pity on this poor little creature greatly in need of a bath and playtime. We are allowed to take her out for walks and take care of her, although she doesn't live with us. She is a very happy puppy. The first time she came up to our common room to play was probably the best day of her life. You could see how excited she was to be around people and to get to act like a dog for once. The benefits are two-fold, as we miss our pets from home and like having a little creature running around that we can take care of.
