Most days it's great to be living abroad and a perpetual tourist. You have all the time to discover the culture's charms and short comings without having to squash the whole experience into a two week vacation. You can say, "Oh, I will have to come back in the fall and see this temple again when the leaves have changed colour" or "I can't take a train to the southern part of the country for a festival this weekend, but maybe next weekend." The great thing is that you have TIME!

However, some days you really miss what you can't have. This week I am missing a family wedding for my cousin in Maryland. I've been hearing about the travel preparations and building excitement for the last few weeks as everyone prepares to head over for the gathering. I know that I will not be the only absent family member, but I would give anything to be able to attend. Family gatherings are important to me and there's nothing like missing a big family gathering to make you really miss home. So congratulations Stu and Mowe! Wish I could be there. Hello and hugs to all the 'Bells. Cousines: I'll see you for that next round of Uno/Cranium/Settlers/whatever-Mark-can-fit-in-the-trunk...
