Where I stayed
Made it to Ao Nang after some stormy weather and an abandoned longtail boat, checked into a reasonable guesthouse for 400 baht a night and went for an explore. As it's low season it's pretty quiet, but it seems to be a Swedish home away from home in peak season!
It's rained non stop so we decided to make the most of it and book some white water rafting and ATV (quadbiking).
We did that today and it was fantastic! The guides were so amusing and it was really nice, then after a tasty lunch we went to the ATVs. Good God, they are LETHAL. Even without the fact that my engine kept on cutting out and neither me nor Molly had fully functioning brakes so it made for some interesting crashes and swerves! My atv cut out in knee deep rapids and wouldn't start, and Molly went into a bush on a 45 degree slope. Skills. It was all hilarious though and we were by far the most reckless of the group so we bought the dvd and now we've started to amass quite a collection what with the thai boxing one
Afterwards we stopped off at a temple of Heaven and Hell. It was the most disturbing thing I've ever seen. After walking through a pitch black passage way through a dragon, Heaven was pretty simple in being a cave, but then Hell was a clearing of life sized figures, all doing various horrific things. It was beyond belief and looked like they'd been designed by a psychopath, everyone was pretty creeped out and you couldn't even imagine how sinister these figures look until you see some of the photos. A lot of them were donation boxes too, but there was no way I was putting my baht near any of those insane looking items. Still gives me the creeps now..... Bizarre.
Found a Swansens though!
Bus back up to Bangkok tomorrow to meet Tom and Arvin. Also going to try and catch a film in Bangkok.
Maybe the rain will stop soon?
