Well today was my first day at school... I went armed with ideas and questions to ask and waited for the directeur to turn up, he was like 40 mins late for school and it turns out he is also a classroom teacher.  So I went along to his lessons without having asked any questions. I was watcing and their teaching techniques are just so different, he would write on the board and not explain what he was actually writing to all the kids was a bit bizarre.  He did some maths then I had to explain to reinforce to the kids which went ok, other than not knowing key words like how to say area and cm2  but you know I got by!  After that they had some bio and he made me draw a diagram on the board (the kids all said it was great but you know my art it was pants) and the teacher just left me when i was doing that so I wasnt really sure if I should be explaining things to the kids or not it was all pretty confusing.  So I decided to explain it and get the kids to write and draw it.  Turned out it was the right thing to do...

At break the girls in the class made me go out and do clapping games with them.  The kids are adorable and I think they really want to learn but their learning system is so different to ours its ridiculous.  No activities or anything...  It was a bit of a culture shock starting at school because I am so used to activities, use sugar paper etc.

After break I had my own class which he said he would watch but instead he just left me alone for 1 and a half hours... I filled half an hour really well and the kids loved learning and sin ging londons burning and if you're happy and you klnow it clap your hands...  After that it went down hill and there was no one there to save me!

But I've been given a history book to look at to prepare for tomorrow.  I'm going to prepare it really well with activities and everything for the kids.  It was good but just a shock to get thrown in when I dont know the syllabus or anything, but I'm sure I will get better.  School fin ishes at 1 mon tues and fri.  I can either start some after school stuff or go and help out with street kids, thinking I may do a bit of both...
