Well i got about 3 hours sleep the night before i flew... i was sooooo excited. To occuply my mind I wrote a story for Lewis about panda bear in china, big brown bear in Russia, small bear in western europe and lewis in Scotland - the story tells him what time it was for each of them during my flight home (well every 3 hours of it) and what they were all doingat those times.

Then it was time to get up.... it had been snowing!! I had already expected this as the weather forecast had predicted snow, so although i was excited I wasn't sure when I would get home.

I made sure i had my departure card - (you fill this in with an entry card on your way into China - i had cellotaped mine inside my passport the border control man laughed a friendly laugh at this.

My bags were ready - but although i had weighed them with the hand scale - i couldnt trust the hand scale and they looked way too heavy!!

So Wenbo kindly arrived to take me to the airport - he and his friend took my bags through the snow to the car and off we went.

At the airport there were announcements that some planes were delayed or cancelled so I just had to wait and see what would happen. I weighed my bags on the airport scales and was glad to find they were just ok!!! some how i managed to place myself in just the right places so that when check-in opened i was at the front of the queue!

while waiting to see if we would fly, i did some last min shopping, watched the work going on outside in the snow, and soon we were boarding.
such a strange feeling to know i was leaving - but still not daring to get too excited,

the plane taxied along towards the runway and the pilot commented on how many other planes were also waiting to take off - it doesnt show up too well in the pics but maybe if  you look closely you can see there were many planes waiting.

We were delayed about an hour and amazingly our plane nearly caught up (by flying so high and fast - at one point having to find a new lower flight path as the fuel freezing warning was given (obviously before the fuel freezes) - inly know all this from speaking with a flight attendant. Also it cost the airline A LOT of money to fly so fast!

so the good thing - i caught my connecting flight to Newcastle - but .... my bags didnt - now as i write this it is sunday and i learn i might get my bags on tuesday - better late than never!!!
