OK so today i went into Nanjing

On my way to see the city wall of Nanjing i passed some interesting shops, which sold some very interesting things. In amongst the shops were locals just getting on with their day, working or looking after babies, cleaning street  etc and... the men playing cards.

It isn't a shock to see any of these things - it's just wierd to think i am here witnessing it for myself.

After that area i spotted my first glimpse of Nanjing city wall - didn't go on it today though but will try to soon. the brick detail is interesting - i wonder if each stone mason left their name - I dont know - wish i did. ... now i know.... "The wall is an important cultural relic for the inscriptions on the bricks. The inscriptions come in two forms. One is from scholars and officials, the other from the artisan or folk people.
The characters of the former is beautiful and elegant and contains the major calligraphic styles, the origin of one of the characters styles even cannot be traced. From here, you can see how Chinese characters developed and understand the multiculturalism of the Ming Dynasty. These inscriptions act like a historical scroll, recording the changes of the wall over dynasties. It provides an indispensable record for the study of Nanjing history."

After getting home i went to the canteen - the two serving recognise me now and we always laugh and try to chat. Today they bought over some famous Nanjing crispy duck which was very tasty.
