Where I stayed
La Manzana Verde
After exiting San Pedro Sula as fast as possible, I made my way down to Copán Ruinas. The town of Copán is about 1km away from the ruins and made a welcome change after hectic San Pedro Sula. Copán town is a small town with hilly, cobbled streets and more than once I saw a tuk-tuk struggle to get to the top of a hill without rolling backwards. I went out to visit a butterfly/orchid house that was on the outskirts of town and was disappointed to find that they'd given up with their orchids and half of their butterflies had been eaten by something a couple of days before. Never mind!
The following morning I headed out early to the ruins and they didin't disappoint! While different to Tikal and Palenque, the site was still fairly extensive and very beautiful. Copán has many more hieroglyphics and carvings than the other sites, many of them have been really well preserved.
