What had rather been a stopover on my way to Vietnam turned out be one of the most wonderful countries I have ever been to.

I entered Laos via the Friendship Bridge in Nong Khai to Vientiane, the capital. The first impression was really bad, all the dust, it was cold, strange. The streets were empty and people seemed to be so poor. No bustling night life, only few shops open, few cars and loads of bikes. Potholes all over town, sometime dangerous deep holes in the streets were plumming works had been started but never finished.
I had caught a bad cold in the nights on the Mekong with damp clothes and didn't enjoy the first days at all.

But then, I started discovering the town, so many beautiful buildings and such nice people! I loved drinking coffee in the streets or breakfasting foe (noodle soup) on the market. Had some really cool nights out with Rudi and Steph, drinking loads of draft beer in the local bamboo huts on the Mekong.

Then, I went to the North where I spent a long time. Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang, Nong Khiaw. I met Carla, who became my travel companion and friend for these days (and the future, hopefully).
