So far one of the highlights of the Groupon deals we bought for this trip is the free breakfast and this Groupon surpassed the others because it was not a buffet. Instead, we got to order as many things as we wanted off the menu for free. We indulged ourselves in a fruit platter, an omelette, a panini, 2 coffees, 2 espressos, and a cappuccino. And we even got a to-go box for the panini, meaning we had an additional free meal.

Afterwards, we explored the organic farm on the hotel property and waited for our shuttle into the village. Placencia is an 11 mile island with our hotel secluded in one end and everything else on the other end. It takes almost 45 minutes to get into town because there are TONS of speed-bumps. We considered the journey necessary because we wanted to explore the place.

Once we arrived in town, we hopped around the main road to all the different shops, which are all in quaint, brightly colored houses. Since English is the official language of Belize and the exchange rate is a simple $1 USD = $2 BZD, shopping is much easier, but unfortunately much more expensive than Costa Rica or Honduras. We made our way to the end of the island, where we decided to walk back along the beach. Yet again, the beaches were eerily quiet because it is "slow" season. Here they are less scared of the rain and more scared of hurricanes. In our opinions, the weather is perfect - hot enough so you can feel the sun, but a nice breeze to keep you from sweating.

After walking for a while, we decided to take a break at dock that belonged in a postcard with a tiki hut, wooden paneling, and bold blue padded beach chairs. We soaked up rays for an hour and managed to see no one besides maintenance workers at the Chabil Mar resort. We then got bored there and decided to make our way further along the beach to another resort - Turtle Inn. MacKenzie had heard of this resort because her step sister works for Francis Coppola, who owns Turtle Inn. We explored the resort and sat at the bar talking to the bartenders, while snacking on delicious dried coconut with honey. Nevertheless, the resort was pretty empty so we got bored and left.

Since our resort was located so far away from the village, we had to wait around for the last shuttle back. To kill time, we explored more shops and went to the grocery store to get food for dinner. We still had time left, so we decided to go to the most popular sports bar in town, Tipsy Tuna. We enjoyed the free wifi and ordered a virgin pina colada which we spiked with our recently purchased coconut rum. Then, we headed out to the street to wait for our shuttle, which arrived only minutes later.

When we got back to the hotel, we went to the organic farm and picked fresh basil to have with our dinner. Now we sit back relaxing in our room, watching TV, eating a dinner of tomatoes, bell peppers, cheese, banana chips, our panini from breakfast, wine, and rum soaked pineapple. You may think we are crazy, but we think that this is the good life.
