This morning we drove to the Healing center of Epidavros. This was like a health spa which reached the height of its popularity in the 4th and 3rd c BC. The site began as a sanctuary to Apollo, but he was superseded by his son Asklepios. Asklepios is the god of healing/Medicine. One of the buildings was a large round (Tholos) where they found labyrinths underneath. These are found at many churches around the world today.
The only people to be excluded from the sanctuary were the terminally ill and heavily pregnant womenl. They would have been bad for the sanctuary's reputation. The people who were healed were asked to give testimony and these were written on stones. The museum here had several of the tablets.
