The couple of days after the cyclone turned out to be incredibly boring. No work and nothing to do around the hostel so I just sat around bored out of my mind doing nothing! Sure there is a pool at the hostel but other than that the only other option is to sit around drinking. There isn't even a working TV to act as a diversion. To relieve the boredom I went to the Internet very often (3 times in 1 day!) but even then I don't have anything to do as I am up-to-date on my diary.

So when we received a call from an agency in town on Thursday night offering us a job for the next day I snapped it up as something to do. Labour work moving furniture! I can lug a few boxes around for a day or 2.

It was actually pretty good and I made a small bit of money off it, still not enough to leave Darwin though! It was really easy work and we hardly had to do anything as there were so many of us. We just had to empty an office and move the stuff to the new office next door. Admittedly this was hard work in hot conditions lugging stuff up and down stairs but it beat cleaning toilets. We also got to take loads of breaks and lunch was spent in the pub! Best of all it paid better than other jobs I have had in Aus ($25.50/hr today) for doing far less work. Wouldn't mind doing it again but not long term.
