After travelling all the way through the centre of Australia to reach Darwin we feel in need of a little rest. Well we haven't been resting all the time as we have been writing CV's and emailing them off to agencies in town in the hope of finding some work other than fruit picking, although we may have to drive over to Queensland and do that if worst comes to worst.

It's not all been bad though as the hostel is bloody good. Has a decent central pool, relatively cheap food and a good bar. Costs $18 a night but that is reasonable for Australia, but I've had to curb my spending a bit. I am now seriously short of funds and at the rate I was spending the last few days ($100/day) I have enough cash to last 5 days! Time to start living on bread and water I think!!

Darwin is a reasonably nice place but I haven't really had the chance to have a good look around. Did a little walk around the Esplanade and the parklands yesterday which was quite nice but didn't really offer very good views. Intend to visit the old prison and museum of Northern Territories in the next few days but with it being Easter now everywhere is shut! Went to Coles and Woolworths this morning to get some food and they were both shut. Never expected the supermarkets to be closed on a holiday? Had to eat McDonalds for breakfast as a result!

The weather here is pretty fantastic! Closer to Indonesia here than Tennant Creek where I was the other day. As a result it is hot, sticky and humid but I'm quite happy with that. It'll just take me a few weeks to get used to it again. Working on a building site, which seems the only work other than bar work, would be a nightmare in this heat but I think that's what I'll have to do.

As it is so humid here the weather can tend to get a bit nasty at night. Darwin is the thunderstorm capital of the world according to my LP and we sure found that out the other night when the loudest clap of thunder I've ever heard shock our dorm room! Only bit of rain since I've been here though so the wet season is over.

So I can't get any work until Tuesday at the earliest as everywhere is shut for Easter so I'll have to just laze around the pool soaking up the rays and reading a good book. Life is hard...

On a side note I have finally got around to finishing the rest of the entries from Malaysia and Singapore. Some good stuff there so it's worth a read. Now to get the rest of the Aussie entries finished..... Probably won't be any new photos for a while though as my USB Adapter has decided to break! Good job I haven't got too many new ones to upload at the moment!
