With news that there has been major flooding in Katherine, the next stop on the way to Darwin, we have been forced to ride it out in Alice. The road is closed and we have no idea when it'll open again, hopefully soon as I'm spending far too much money here!

During the day I've mainly been sitting around near the pool in our hostel enjoying resting for a change. It's good to be back in a town after being on the road, and sleeping in the car, so a few home comforts are good every now and again.

The car was shaking around when we arrived in Alice so the first thing next morning we jacked it up and checked the pressure in all the tyres. Hard work in the heat out here! Couldn't see anything wrong so drove to one of the many mechanics in town to get it checked over. First place said we needed 2 new back tyres at $120 each! We went elsewhere and were told we only needed 1 new tyre and it would cost $90! Not what I had wanted to hear but it needed replacing. It was on the verge of a blowout and it's just as well we got it checked as we had been going at 150km/hr on the way and it wouldn't have been fun having a tyre explode at those speeds! Still don't think it was the dirt track that caused the damage but the tyres rubbing on the wheel arches when we hit dips at high speed. Either way the car isn't shaking any more but the engine certainly sounds like it needs a bit of a looking over sometime soon! More money I bet.

I had a bit of a walk around the town and it seems quite nice. Reminds me a little of the lanes in Brighton. Lots of outdoor cafes and coffee shops. Did wonder to myself why anyone would choose to live here as it is in the middle of nowhere! Didn't seem like it though. Took a drive up to Anzac hill to checkout the view of the town and it is tiny! Really green though which surprised me as it is so hot here most of the year.

Our hostel has an "all you can eat" buffet every evening for a very reasonable $8. Roo burgers, pasta and loads of salad with as many refills as you like. It was great after pasta everyday for the last few weeks.

Today we met up with a couple of French guys we met in Yarra. They were a great laugh and it was good to catch up with them again over a couple of beers whilst watching the mighty Spurs win again in some English style pub. After that it was back to Melanka's to carry on the party in the club. I didn't stay very long but the Frenchies were crazy and danced the night away until 5am. They only arrived today but have already secured a job and will be staying in Alice for 2 months! It's alright for a few days but I would go stir crazy staying in such a small town for longer.
