OK, Melbourne may be a great city but everyone from the UK comes here for only 1 reason, to visit Ramsey Street! There are a number of tours that will take you there and charge $30 for the privilege but we had our own set of wheels so set off on the 20km drive to Vermont South.

We knew the street we wanted was called Pin Oak Court and that it was in Vermont South but other than that we knew nothing! So we drove around aimlessly along the streets looking in vain. The houses all looked right but we couldn't find the damn street.

After driving around for about 20 minutes we stopped and Dave went into a local shop to ask directions, and buy some drinks as it was 35C degrees and far hotter in the car. He came out grinning and said it was 2 streets on the left! It was the only street without a bloody sign and we had driven passed it 3 times already. I had thought it was weird that there was no sign and thought it looked a bit familiar but this time we were sure...Or were we?

I just wasn't sure that it was the right street. Dave was certain but to me it looked completely different. It was only when I took some pictures with my camera that I started to believe that it was the correct street. I had to be sure though so I did the disgraceful thing of peeping into a letterbox on the street to see what the address was on the letters. Didn't see an address but I didn't need to, it had been confirmed for me. The letter may not have had an address but there was a big logo on the letter from Grundy Television. This was the correct street!

It felt incredibly weird to be standing in the street you have seen on TV for so many years and it just didn't seem right. It was so small and different to what I had imagined. After a couple of minutes though we realised that we were standing in some random peoples street, taking photos of their houses and felt rather foolish so mad a run for it back to the hostel. I had set foot on the hallowed turf of Ramsey St but I will never return to it again. It just isn't the same without the people you know from the TV walking round the street.
