Slept pretty well but woke up at 4am and couldn't be bothered to go back to sleep. I could already see the bright lights in the distance and thought it'd be pointless. Put on the MP3 player and tuned into one of the Bangkok English language radio stations. I think Virgin Smooth must be relatively new as they say the stations name after every song. Metropolis radio was playing BBC World Service which has to be the dullest thing I have ever listened to.

Arrived back on Khao San road at 5:45am and went off searching for a room, not too much of a problem I thought. Evidently no one was going to take the bags off so I had to unload all the bags myself, cutting myself on something in the process.

Lars had been in town a couple of days so I checked out where he was staying, 700 a night, no chance! No worries I thought, I'll just try where I stayed last time. No luck there either but third time lucky in the place next door, dungeon that it was aside. I can't expect the Ritz on what I'm paying but the guesthouses in Bangkok are disgraceful and purposefully don't put electrically sockets in the rooms and make you pay 30/hour to charge anything! Tight fisted bastards aren't getting any more of my money! Went straight back to sleep and woke up at 10 to meet Lars.

Nothing like a triple whopper at Burger King to start the day, especially when it is followed up with a Starbucks coffee! Wandered around Khao San for a bit and stocked up on some more doxycycline for malaria prevention. Been good on it so far and never missed a day so I'm not giving up now! With another 30 days in Asia I was nearly running out. Not sure how good it is to be taking it for this long though. As I type this (24/01/06) I have been on it solidly for the past 14 weeks which can't be good, especially as I will still be taking it for another 6 more!

Headed back round to my hotel and bumped into Lucy. She had managed to get in my old hostel and it was great to meet up for a chat and a coffee for the first time since Lijiang. Next thing we knew it was 3pm and the time had flown by! Got on a bus and headed to MBK. Treated myself to a new camera for Christmas, no doubt fallen off the back of a lorry, to replace my old trusty brick. Got on a bus back to Khao San, in rush hour, and finally got back around 6pm. Lucy had left earlier but got lost and didn't get back until 7:30! Oops...

Lars had been to the airport to pickup his missus, Sandra, who had come out on holiday for 3 weeks and I went to meet them for a drink, but not before having my third Pat Thai of the day. Living on a budget today!

Went to the place near my hotel that showed movies and had a couple more drinks. When the movie finished Lars and Sandra took off and I sat around discussing politics with and English guy, as you do when you're on holiday... Lucy came along and we ended up talking some more over yet more beers, before we realised it was 2am! Where did all the hours go today! Quickest day of my travels without question but one of the better ones.
