We were leaving for Vientiane today and I was pretty sad to be leaving vang Vieng. It has been a perfect place for me to relax for a couple of days but the holiday must end soon and the proper travelling start again. I plan to see more sights in Vietnam but Laos is only about enjoying the slow pace of life.

And so we headed to get some breakfast, at a place showing Friends, before saying goodbye to Kim and Lars and jumping on the back of a Jeep to the bus station.

We assumed we had a VIP bus again but it was a small minibus and every seat was taken. The journey passed without incident and I read pretty much all the Da Vinci Code during the ride. I've noticed they're making it into a movie, and why not as it's bound to make millions! Not sure about Tom hanks as Langdon though, although I'm sure Audrey Tautou will be fantastic as Sophie, just as long as her English has improved since Dirty Pretty Things...

But anyway back to the diary. Arrived at Vientiane down by the river, where you could see Thailand in the distance, and avoided the tuk-tuks to the border in favour of walking to a hotel. We will be going to Thailand, just not yet and I doubt I'll see much more than Bangkok and a few islands! Save it for another trip!

Dumped our stuff in the hotel and treated myself to a single room with a huge double bed. Didn't think the mozzie screens on the windows would do much good though and imagined I would wake up tomorrow peppered with little wounds. The bastards love me!

I now needed to locate my passport and the road wasn't shown in the LP, of course, so it was good that I had nothing better to do all day. Walked miles to far and had to double back. We knew it was somewhere near the morning market so when we arrived at a market we assumed we were nearby. Apparently this was the afternoon market, more like the dirt market as it was horrible. Carried on walking and found the correct market. Realised after 30 minutes that it wasn't at the market but a street nearby. Passports safely back in my possession, with a shiny new Vietnamese visa attached we headed back to the hotel.

Pretty much dossed for a couple of hours on the net before heading to the sports bar nearby to watch the football. Watched the Arsenal v Wigan game which was bloody good before going to bed knackered. Bus trips seriously take all the energy out of you!
