We had planned to get up early and get the bus to Qioutou but by the time we were up and ready it was already 10:30. After breakfast in the cafe from last night we boarded a local bus to the long distance bus station. We were trekking Tiger Leaping Gorge today, something I had been looking forward to before leaving home, and we really should have left earlier.

As with the 3 gorges, Tiger Leaping Gorge is under threat from a dam as well. The LP says construction hasn't started yet, well it certainly looked like it had to us judging by all the construction work going on.

We finally arrived at 2:30pm and by the time we had left our bags with Margo at her cafe it was already 3pm. Pretty damn late and no way we would make it to the halfway house like I had wished.

After getting lost trying to find the start we were soon on our way climbing higher and higher up into the mountains. It was incredibly tough going but the views were enough of a reward. Snowcapped mountains on the one side with the Yangtze river flowing 1500 metres below.

The 28 bends section was also particularly hard going. Constantly up hill, twisting and turning all the way. We even passed some nutters with their full backpacks which we thought was insane! We were struggling enough with our day packs. I had a Snickers for energy and managed to make it.

By 7:30 it was starting to get dark so we were very thankful to see the Teahorse guesthouse in the distance. Pretty famished so wolfed down the chilli peanuts and rice before heading to bed to give my feet a rest.
