Antibes
Saturday September 16th 2006 -16.5 miles on foot
Got up and walked all the way to the end of the beach near the airport. (There is a tour, but we decided to do it on foot. www.petittrainnice.com) The weather was sunny and the sun was strong. On the way back we turned up Boulevard Gambetta where we stopped at a grocery store to buy a few things for lunch. Continuing up the Blvd, we turned onto Blvd Tzarewich which took us to the Old Russian Church (Cathedrale Russe). This is a really interesting church built in the same style as the famous church in Red Square, Moscow. It was a nice backdrop for our picnic of French food. After lunch we headed back to the hotel to freshen up and then to the station where we caught the train to Antibes. Only a fifteen minute ride, Antibes also has a huge harbor full of nice boats and a huge castle. We spent some time walking around the castle and taking several pictures of the panoramic view of the coastline. On the other side of the harbor is the walled city. We walked through town and along the sea front were we found a small secluded beach, but it was too late in the day to fully enjoy. We found a set of stairs that led up to the top of the wall which has been made into a walkway. We enjoyed the views of the small town and of the castle as we ate our picnic dinner. Afterwards we headed back to Nice and stopped off at the Big Ben Pub where Lyn enjoyed a Strawberry Lambic and I had a dark French Biere.... Then off to bed.
