So, yesterday i arrived in Koh Samui after an all-night bus ride leaving Bangkok at 6pm.
The bus was actually pretty cool - we had a group of about 8 of us on a massive double decker, so we go to spread across 2 reclining seats each and steal about 4 blankets - brilliant!  I actually slept pretty well.
I also met a really cool girl called Jontel who's a Kiwi living in Perth. She's only on a holiday & flies back next week, so of course i mentioned that i was flying there and she has already offered me a sofa!  Ace!  So that was a nice coincidence.
Anyway - so i got to Samui & headed for Mae Nam because i have been advised to avoid the main strip due to Blackpool-itis!  So off i went...
To be honest i had a pretty dull time. I wasn't that enamoured with the place as a whole - there was hardly anyone around, and not that much to do...plus the place i stayed wasn't exactly up to my preferred standard!!  Still - it was pretty cheap and really just a whistle stop, so i grabbed my book and suncream and headed for the beach (which i pretty much had to myself).
I had a nice time sunbathing and swimming in the sea, but i was really looking forward to leaving and getting to the more stunning islands.  The night actually improved vastly due to my happening upon a little bar run by a 35-yr old Thai woman (who looked 25!) called Ya. I went in for one drink in the afternoon, but ended up going back all evening and playing pool with her and all of her friends for about 4 hours!!  It turns out i was kind of on a roll, so they were all telling me that i played well - which those of you who have had the pleasure to witness will know, is a total lie!!  But lady luck was on my side.

After an enjoyable night of bad r'n'b music and some accidental skill, Ya drove me to my guesthouse door on the back of her motorbike  -which was much appreciated seeing as i got a bit of a slightly intimidating vibe from the place.  All in all - not a bad place after all - but i definitely won't be going back!

Koh Tao, here i come....
