I'm cheating slightly and writing this the following day, but I arrived in China with Gem yesterday afternoon on the train from Hong Kong (i was going to be clever and write the name of the train station, but i can't remember it off the top of my head and i don't have my written journal with me....balls! ;)
Anyway....her flat is lovely, and i am very appreciative of not having to shower whilst sitting on the toliet in a room the size of a matchbox - as per Hong Kong hostels! :D I also slept like a log last night, with bits of bark on my face, surrounded by leaves...*arrfff*... so i am happy. Gem didn't think i'd like the cereal or milk or anything here either, but i love it!! It's yummy. (honest!)
I managed to visit the Foreign Language school which Johnson teaches at last night & meet her friends which was ace - they're a lovely bunch of people & some of the Chinese kids are so gorgeous i just want to put them in my pocket and take them home! Sooooo cute.
Hmm....what else..? Not a lot else to report really, except that we arrived on a DOUBLE DECKER train (!) and NOBODY speaks English here at all. Roads are a total free-for-all danger-zone, and it's so poor that it really makes you appreciate where you come from. There was a woman begging in the street last night with 2 babies laid asleep on the concrete beside her, which was just unbelievably horrible....it's a totally different life over here, but i am completely loving it - it's so refreshing....in a humid, sticky, disgusting sort of way...;)
Annnnnnyway - now i'm just waffling! I will write again soon. Off to Beijing in 2 days, which i am uberly excited about!! Great Wall, here i come....woo-hoo!
Peace out breadbins...xxx
